Drew Brees, Quarterback of the New Orleans Saints and MVP of Superbowl XLIV Brees Dream Foundation – Drew Brees was the first USA Professional athlete that supported 2 Life 18 founder David Perez when requesting support for urgent financial aid to sponsor Helicopter Rescue and Relief missions days after a devastating earthquake hit Haiti, just 15km from the capital. Reaching a magnitude of 7.0, the worst earthquake Haiti has experienced in 200 years. The mission resulted emergency in food, water and medical drops into Leogane and the extraction of a thirteen-year-old girl who suffered major head trauma. She was airlifted to the USS Comfort where she is now out of critical condition and is expected to have a full recovery.
Richard Branson and Virgin Unite Group - In the early weeks of the disaster, Virgin America donated seats on flights departing to Florida for over one week transporting medical personnel and urgent medical supplies to Florida, which then were transferred to the next available private jets or cargo planes going to Haiti. Although the ability for commercial aircraft to land at the only airport serving the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince (PAP) remains limited, Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America continue sending medical supplies, personnel, food and medicine to South Florida. Virgin America carried medical professionals and 40,000 pounds of medical supplies, surgical kits, food and medicine supplied by the California-based nonprofit 2 Life 18 Help and Rescue Foundation Inc. to South Florida for connection on authorized transports to Haiti.
Virgin America teammates have also initiated a fundraising drive with Virgin Unite (the philanthropic arm of the Virgin Group) for Haitian relief efforts. The generosity and compassion of our colleagues has helped us beat our initial goal – and the tally continues to grow. As of today, flyers can now also contribute to this relief fund while onboard Virgin America via the Red in-flight entertainment platform (guests can donate via credit card swipe at their seat). Please visit the Virgin Unite fundraising page to donate or for more information. http://www.virginunite.com/
Nika Water and Jeffrey Church, CEO
Assisted in providing irrigation systems and water treatment systems into a 1,200 person IDP camp in Haiti.
Through the sale of premium bottled water, NIKA hopes to bring a voice to the world’s poor who suffer without the basic right to clean water and simple sanitation. By donating 100% of their profits to support clean water projects in impoverished countries, NIKA will provide the basic tools and critical assistance to help thousands of families improve their lives in a meaningful way and end the cycle of poverty. Furthermore, by enlisting today’s newest generation of kids through our Agents of Change program, our goal is to create awareness and knowledge to serve as a catalyst for thousands of youth to get involved in their quest to bring clean water to the impoverished world.
Mindful of their duties as stewards of the Earth, NIKA has been certified as CarbonFree® by Carbonfund.org through our investment in carbon offsetting programs such as a reforestation project in Nicaragua. In addition, NIKA has developed a very unique recycling program where we pay high schools around the country a small fee for each plastic bottle that the school collects and recycles. Through this “One-for-One Recycling Program,” our aim is not only to be plastic bottle neutral, but an advocate of the importance and simplicity of basic recycling as well.
Nika founders are a group of seasoned business executives who have successfully built and expanded for-profit businesses and who now share a common focus of creating social and environmentally responsible businesses that can be used to help solve global problems. The founders have funded all of NIKA’s startup and launch/operating losses and will realize no compensation or economic benefit from NIKA. Please support and visit Nika at: http://www.nikawater.org/
Trilogy International Partners
Brad Horwitz, Manager, President and Chief Executive Officer of Trilogy International Partners, operators of the Voila (ComCEL) cellular networks in Haiti. In the aftermath of the earthquake and the cholera epidemic Trilogy continues to provide at no charge millions of dollars worth of smart phones, cell phones, free airtime usage, high speed internet access, megaphones, generators, water trucks, financial assistance to many of the NGO’s and hospitals we have been supporting in our relief efforts. David Perez said “without Trilogy’s partnership many more people would have died of starvation and not have reached appropriate medical facilities where urgent surgeries were performed by using cell phones to locate hospitals that were opened and had surgeons on staff.” This critical aid would have not been delivered in time if it were not for there generous contributions in communications and delivering life saving supplies all over Haiti when needed most. To learn more about Trilogy please visit. http://www.trilogy-international.com/home.php and to make a donation to the Voilà Foundation http://www.voilafoundation.com/
